Press release - HKMAAL 1st Anniversary Celebration

Hong Kong – 11 October 2013

The Hong Kong Mediation Accreditation Mediation Association Limited ("HKMAAL”) is pleased to announce that its 1^st anniversary Celebration Event will take place on 11 October 2013 at 38^th floor, Two Exchange Square, Central.  The Secretary for Justice, The Hon Mr Rimsky Yuen SC, JP and The Hon Mr Justice Johnson Lam VP have kindly agreed to be the guests of honour. Furthermore 62 stakeholders in the mediation industry have been invited to share our joy and excitement at the celebration event.

HKMAAL is established as the premier accreditation body for mediators in Hong Kong, discharging standards setting, accreditation and disciplinary functions. Whilst it will set standards for mediation training courses, HKMAAL itself will not provide courses.

"HKMAAL is an all-inclusive accreditation body with a broad range of mediators from different professions and background on its panel.” said Mr John Budge, the Chairman of HKMAAL.  "After one year of operation, HKMAAL has become one of the largest accreditation bodies in Hong Kong with over 1,000 mediators on its panel. Our long term aim is to eventually become a statutory body and to be the sole accreditation body for mediators in Hong Kong.”

HKMAAL was founded by The Hong Kong Bar Association, The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre, Hong Kong Mediation Centre and the Law Society of Hong Kong. Recently CEDR Asia Pacific, Hong Kong Institute of Arbitrators, The Hong Kong Institute of Architects and The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors have also joined HKMAAL as corporate members.  The objective of HKMAAL is to set high professional standards for the mediation industry in Hong Kong.
