Notice on HKMAAL transitional accreditation arrangements

(a) A candidate who has previously completed both Stage 1 and Stage 2 requirements for accreditation as General Mediator by Founder Members is eligible to apply to HKMMAL for accreditation as General Mediator (Stage 3) without having to retake mediation training course accredited by HKMAAL (Stage 1 requirement) and mediator’s assessment (Stage 2 requirement);
(b) A candidate who has previously completed the joint assessment conducted by the Law Society and HKIAC is eligible to apply to HKMMAL for accreditation as General Mediator (Stage 3) without having to retake mediation training course accredited by HKMAAL (Stage 1 requirement) and mediator’s assessment (Stage 2 requirement);
(c) A candidate who has previously passed one Stage 2 assessment conducted solely or jointly by Founder Members is eligible to take a second Stage 2 assessment conducted by HKMAAL, passing of which will then entitle the candidate to apply to HKMMAL for accreditation as General Mediators (Stage 3);
(d) The validity period/ time limit for Stage 1 and Stage 2 requirements be brought forward and considered by HKMAAL when the candidates make an application to HKMAAL under Scenario (a) to (c) above;
(e) If any of the Founder Members has asked for an interview of a candidate in the course of considering an accreditation application, the interview would be conducted by HKMAAL; and
(f) After 24 July 2013, HKMAAL will commence accrediting mediation training courses and all Founder Members will cease accreditation of mediation training courses. During the transitional period, potential candidates may enroll or attend training courses accredited by Founder Members of HKMAAL prior to 24 July 2013. The attendees of the training courses accredited by Founder Members are eligible to apply to take part in HKMAAL Stage 2 Mediator Assessments.
