Guidelines on the awarding of CPD Points

Practically, "one" CPD point will be awarded for each contact hour of the event session (excluding coffee/tea/lunch/dinner breaks etc.). Only full or half points may be credited to any course. Points should be rounded down to the nearest half point for courses which are not scheduled to last for an exact number of half or whole hours. For example, for an event with a duration of 1.5 hours or more but less than 2 hours, the number of CPD points awarded would be rounded up to 1.5 CPD points, and an event with a duration of 2 hours or more but less than 2.5 hours, the number of CPD points awarded would be rounded to 2 CPD points.

Additional points may be awarded in exceptional cases provided the event is structured in a way that it merits additional points and that the organiser has clearly drawn the matter to the attention of the HKMAAL Secretariat in the application form "CPD(M)" under the section of "Additional Information".

An Event must be of at least one hour in duration. Courses of only one hour must have no more than 10 minutes devoted to questions from the audience.

Registration Fee

If an organiser charges/levies a fee for an attendee to attend their event, a registration fee per event will be charged and the organiser is required to submit this registration fee together with their application form "CPD(M)". Failure to submit a registration fee will render the application invalid. On the other hand, if an organiser does not charge/levy a fee for an attendee to attend their event, then a registration fee is not required.

The prescribed registration fee is currently fixed at HK$500 per event for non-commercial organisers and HK$1,000 per event for commercial organisers. To qualify for non-commercial status an organiser must be a not-for-profit entity with charitable status. Supporting documentation showing charitable status may be required by the HKMAAL Secretariat to support their application.
